Why can't I pick a time when adding a booking?

When you add a booking, Time only offers the times you’ve set up for the chosen meal, in the chosen room, on the chosen date. So if it’s greyed out, or the time you want isn’t there, the answer is almost always in that setup. Here are the messages you might see and what to do about each.

No service on the date you picked

Where you’d normally choose the meal, an amber box says, for example, No service on Monday 21 September 2026, and Time is greyed out. With more than one room it names the room: No service in Terrace on Monday 21 September 2026.

Why: nothing is served in that room that day, so there’s no meal and no times to offer. It might be a closing date, a day of the week the meal doesn’t run, or a date outside the meal’s season.

What to do:

  • Under the heading, NomNom names the next day your venue is open, such as The next day with a service is Tuesday 22 September 2026. If the guest can come then, click Use Tue 22 Sep. NomNom never changes the date by itself.
  • Otherwise pick another Date, or another Room.
  • If you should be open that day, check Closing dates and one-off changes and Creating meals and your booking times.
  • If NomNom can’t find an open day in the next three months, the box says Choose another date for this booking. That usually means no meal times are set up yet.

A meal is picked but Time is greyed out

Why: that meal has no times in that room on that date. In the new design of the form, it says No times configured for this meal instead.

What to do: pick another meal or room, or add times in Configuration → Times (see Creating meals and your booking times and Different booking times for different rooms).

The time you want isn’t on the list

Why: the list only offers times you’ve set up, and you can’t type your own. A time that belongs to another meal only shows once you pick that meal. Times that are full still show, with a bar for how busy they are, because a guest limit doesn’t stop your team booking.

What to do: pick the right meal first, then the time. To offer a new time every week, add it under Configuration → Times. For one date only, use a one-off change (see Closing dates and one-off changes).

Starting a booking from the chart

  • The venue is closed on this day, so there is nothing to book. You clicked on a day you’re closed. Pick an open day, or if you should be open, see Closing dates and one-off changes.
  • This day has no bookable times set up yet. You’re open, but none of the day’s meals have times, usually because they aren’t set up yet.
  • There’s no bookable time around here — pick a slot inside the service. You clicked more than half an hour away from any booking time: in the gap between lunch and dinner, say, or late in the evening when a long booking has stretched the chart past your last time. Click closer to a time you take bookings.

See Adding a booking straight from the chart for how chart clicks work.

Good to know

  • Walk-ins are always now. For a walk-in, Time shows Now and the current time, and it can’t be changed. For someone arriving later, use New reservation (see Seating a walk-in).
  • Check a whole day at once. Click Availability in the left-hand bar to see every time on a day. No times on this day means that room serves nothing for that meal on that date.
  • In the phone app, tap the time on the Availability screen. If Select Time says No time slots available, change the date, room or meal at the top of the screen.
  • Saving without a time brings up Please choose a time. On a day with no service, you’ll see There’s no service on Monday 21 September 2026. Choose another date.
  • Your booking page offers times from the same setup, plus the rules for online bookings (see How NomNom decides which times to offer online).
