Restaurant deposits and card holds that stop no-shows

Ask for a card or a deposit when someone books online, on the nights and party sizes where a no-show hurts. Payments go straight into your own Stripe account, guests can pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay, and NomNom adds no fee to a single deposit.

How it works

Deposits in three steps

  1. Connect Stripe

Link your own Stripe account once. Deposits and card payments are paid into it, with your venue as the seller.

  2. Set the rules per meal

Choose a card hold or a deposit, per person or as a flat fee, from the party size and on the days you pick.

  3. Guests pay as they book

The card step appears in the booking form, with Apple Pay and Google Pay. No booking is made until the card goes through.

Protect every table

Why restaurants ask for a deposit

A deposit or a saved card turns a casual booking into a commitment, and gives you something to fall back on when a table stays empty.

Card hold or deposit

Save a card without charging it, or take a deposit per person or as a flat fee. For a set or tasting menu, make the deposit the full price and take payment up front.

Which should I ask for?

No NomNom fee

NomNom adds nothing to deposits, payment links or no-show charges. Stripe’s standard card fee is the only cost, and the money lands in your own account.

What it costs

Apple Pay and Google Pay

Wallet payments come switched on for your booking link and Discover page, for deposits and card holds alike.

No-show and late-cancel fees

Refunds when plans change

Refund in full or in part from the booking. Switch on automatic refunds and cancellations outside your no-refund window are refunded for you.

You decide

Your deposit rules

Every rule is set per meal and applies to online bookings. Your team can still book anyone in by phone.

  • Party size: a card from 6 guests, a deposit from 10, or any mix
  • Days of the week: a card midweek and a deposit on Fridays and Saturdays
  • Per person or flat fee: whichever suits the meal
  • Full pre-payment: set the per-person deposit to the menu price
  • Your no-show charge: shown on the card step and in the guest’s emails
  • Automatic refunds: on or off, with a no-refund window you choose

Frequently asked questions

Does NomNom take a cut of deposits?

No. Only Stripe's standard card fee applies, and the money lands in your own Stripe account.

Can no-show fees be charged automatically?

No. Your team charges the saved card from the booking and chooses the amount, and the guest is emailed a receipt. If the bank declines it, send a payment link instead.

Can I ask for deposits only at weekends or for big groups?

Yes. Each meal has a minimum party size and the days of the week the rule applies on.

What happens to a deposit if the guest cancels?

It is kept unless you switch on automatic refunds. With them on, cancellations outside your no-refund window are refunded for you.

How do I take a deposit for a phone booking?

Send a payment link by text or email, for up to £2,000. The booking shows Awaiting card until it is paid.
