Reading your monthly Insights

Insights sums up a whole month: how many guests you had, how many didn’t turn up, where your bookings came from, and your busiest days and times. It’s worked out from your bookings, so there’s nothing to set up.

Opening Insights

In NomNom Web, click More (the three dots in the top bar) and choose Insights. In the phone app, open the menu and tap Insights, or tap Monthly Insights at the top of Reports.

It opens on last month. Use the arrows beside the month to go further back. The forward arrow stops at last month, because a month that’s still running would look like a slump next to a finished one.

What’s counted

Insights counts bookings for dates in the month, including walk-ins. Cancelled bookings are left out of everything. No-shows still count as bookings and covers, because they were booked, and they get a tile of their own. Covers means adults plus children.

The four tiles

  • COVERS — guests booked in for the month, with the change on the month before in green or red, such as +12% vs July.
  • RESERVATIONS — the number of bookings, compared in the same way.
  • NO-SHOWS — bookings marked as a no-show, and the rate: no-shows as a share of the month’s bookings. See Cancelling a booking and marking a no-show.
  • AVG PARTY — covers divided by bookings, with the month before underneath.

If there’s nothing to compare with, or no change at all, you’ll see just vs July with no percentage.

The charts

  • Where bookings came from — the month’s bookings split three ways. Online is guests who booked themselves on your booking page, the form on your website or Google. Walk-in is walk-ins you seated. Phone is everything else your team entered, whether it came by phone, email or at the bar. The middle of the ring shows the share that came online.
  • Busiest days — covers for each day of the week, added up across the month, with the busiest in pink. It’s a total, so a month with five Saturdays gives Saturday a head start.
  • Every date in the month — a calendar shaded from light (your quietest date) to dark (your busiest). Dates with no bookings at all just have an outline, so a closed day looks different from a quiet one.
  • Peak dining times — how many bookings were due in each half hour, by their booking time, with the busiest in pink. Point at a bar, or tap it on a phone, to see the number.
  • When bookings are placed — the hour of the day bookings were made, online and phone stacked together. This one counts bookings made during the month, whatever date they’re for, and leaves walk-ins out.

Under each chart, one line picks out the headline, such as Friday alone carries 29% of the month’s covers.

Putting it to use

Good to know

  • Want it on paper? Insights doesn’t print. For a month of covers by area and meal, print the Guest Summary: see Covers for the month by room and meal (Guest Summary).
  • Everyone on your team can open Insights, whatever their role.
  • Times are your venue’s local time.
  • A month with no bookings says No bookings in and the month.
