Why is the time red when I edit a booking?

When you edit a booking and change its room, meal or date, NomNom keeps the booking’s time exactly as it was. It never quietly moves a booking to a different time. If the room, meal or date you’ve chosen doesn’t offer that time, the Time box turns red, with a warning sign, so you can decide what to do.

Why the time is red

Each meal has its own list of times, and each room can have its own too (see Different booking times for different rooms). Say Sam Taylor is booked in the Restaurant at 9:15 PM and you move her to the Terrace, where the last time is 9:00 PM. NomNom keeps 9:15 PM and shows it in red. Hover over it to read This time isn’t available in Terrace — the booking will keep it unless you pick another time.

The red only appears when you’ve changed the room, meal or date while editing. A booking whose time simply isn’t on the list — a walk-in seated at 7:07 PM, say, or a time you’ve since removed — opens as normal.

What to do

Pick a time from the list. Open Time and choose one of the times offered. The red goes away.

Or keep the time. Click Save changes and NomNom checks with you first: Time not available — 9:15 PM isn’t an available time in Terrace. Save the booking at this time anyway? Click Save anyway to keep it, or Go back to change it. Go back is already selected, so pressing Enter out of habit takes you back rather than saving.

When the meal is amber

A booking keeps its meal when it’s moved to a table in another room (see Changing a booking’s date, time, party size or table). If that room doesn’t serve the meal, the Meal row shows it as an extra amber chip with a warning sign, next to the room’s own meals, and a note underneath: Quiz Night Supper is not offered in Garden Room — kept from this booking. Pick a meal above to change it.

Leave it, and the booking keeps its meal when you save. To change it, click one of the room’s own meals, then pick a time from that meal’s list. Changed your mind? Click the amber chip to put the original meal back before you save.

You’ll also see the amber chip if you change the room yourself and the new room doesn’t serve the booking’s meal. NomNom selects the new room’s first meal, and the amber chip is there so you can switch back.

Good to know

  • New bookings work differently. While you’re adding a booking there’s no time to protect yet, so if you change the meal, room or date and the time isn’t offered any more, the time moves to the first one that is. Check it before you save.
  • Book another date. The next booking keeps the same time. If that day doesn’t offer it, the time is red and you’ll be asked before it saves (see Booking a guest in for several days in a row).
  • The new design of the form works the same way. The time box turns red, and the amber meal chip explains itself when you hover over it.
  • In the phone app you change the date, room, meal and time together on the Availability screen. Change the date and the time is kept; if the new date doesn’t offer it, a red note under the time says so: 9:15 PM isn’t a booking time on this date. Tap to pick another, or keep it. Choosing another meal moves the time to that meal’s first time. The time at the top of the screen is what will be saved, so check it before you tap Confirm.
  • Dragging on the chart never changes the time, only the table.
