Not getting booking notifications on your phone

Notifications stopped, or never started? Work down this list. Most problems are a setting on the phone, and the last step, Fix notifications, puts right the rest without reinstalling the app.

First, check what should arrive

Notifications are for bookings guests make online: on your booking page, your website’s booking form or Google. Bookings your team takes never send one. Same-day cancellations only come to phones that have switched them on. See Getting new-booking notifications on your phone.

Causes, and what to do

  • This phone has them switched off, or set for bigger parties → open the menu, tap Settings, then Notifications. Check Reservation notifications isn’t Disabled, and that its party size isn’t higher than you meant. 6 or more guests means a table for four is never announced.
  • You’re looking at a different venue → if the phone is signed in to more than one venue, each has its own settings. Switch venue and check Notifications there too.
  • The phone is blocking NomNom → on the same screen, tap Notification Settings and make sure notifications are allowed for NomNom. Check Do Not Disturb, Focus or a battery saver isn’t hiding them too.
  • The phone isn’t signed in to the venue any more → a phone that’s been signed out, or had the venue removed, gets nothing for that venue. Open the app: if it asks you to sign in or add a venue, do that. See Why has my phone been signed out, or says "Reconnecting to NomNom"?.
  • Changes or cancellations never arrive → an admin should check Notify staff is on under ONLINE CHANGES and WHEN A RESERVATION IS CANCELLED in Settings → Cancellations & No-shows. Cancellation notifications only come for today’s bookings, and only when the guest cancels with the link in their email.
  • Everything looks right, but nothing comes, or new bookings only appear when you pull down to refresh → use Fix notifications, below.

Use Fix notifications

Your phone keeps a registration with NomNom that tells us where to send its notifications. Now and then a phone’s registration goes stale: NomNom keeps sending, but the phone never shows them. Fix notifications gives the phone a brand-new registration, the same as reinstalling the app, without reinstalling or signing out.

1. Open Notifications. Menu → Settings → Notifications.

2. Tap Fix notifications. It’s under TROUBLESHOOTING at the bottom. It takes a few seconds.

3. Read the message.

  • Notifications re-registered — new bookings should now appear automatically. You’re done.
  • Notifications are turned off for NomNom — enable them in your device’s notification settings first. Allow them in your phone’s settings (tap Notification Settings), come back and tap Fix notifications again.
  • Couldn’t re-register notifications. Check your connection and try again. Check the phone is online, then try again.

The phone app's Notifications screen scrolled to TROUBLESHOOTING, with Fix notifications and the note explaining it re-registers push notifications

In the phone app: menu → Settings → Notifications → Fix notifications. Phone app only.

Good to know

  • NomNom tidies up dead registrations. If a phone’s registration stops working for good, for example because the app was deleted, NomNom stops sending to it. The phone stays signed in, and it registers again by itself the next time the app is opened or brought back to the front. Opening the app is often all it takes.
  • No need to reinstall. Fix notifications does the same job, and you keep your venues and settings.
  • NomNom Web has no notifications. It updates on screen by itself instead. See A new booking isn’t showing on another screen.
  • Still stuck? Email support@nomnom-app.net with the phone’s make and model, and roughly when a notification should have arrived.
