The NomNom phone app can tell you the moment a guest books online, with a notification on your lock screen, even when the app is closed. Each phone makes its own choice about whether it gets them and for which bookings, so the manager’s phone can hear about every booking while the phone behind the bar only hears about big parties.
Switch them on
1. Let NomNom send notifications. The first time you open the NomNom app, your phone asks whether NomNom may send you notifications. Say yes. If you said no, open the menu, tap Settings, then Notifications, and tap Notification Settings. That opens your phone’s own settings for NomNom, where you can switch notifications on.
2. Choose which bookings. On the same Notifications screen, tap Reservation notifications and pick All bookings, or a smallest party size, from 3 or more guests up to 10 or more guests. Disabled turns them off on this phone. A phone starts on All bookings.
3. Add same-day cancellations, if you want them. Switch on Same-day cancellation notification to hear when a guest cancels a booking for today. It starts off on every phone.
In the phone app: menu → Settings → Notifications. Phone app only: NomNom Web doesn’t send notifications.
Anyone on your team can do this, whatever their role: it only changes their own phone.
What you’re told about
- New online bookings. Every booking a guest makes themselves: on your booking page, on the booking form on your own website, or through Google. The title is your venue’s name. Underneath you’ll see the party size and name, such as Table for 4 - Sam Taylor, the day and time, and any note the guest left.
- Two little icons. A card after your venue’s name means a card is on file for the booking. A notepad means the guest left a note, so it’s worth a look before service.
- Changes a guest makes online (Booking changed), with what moved. These follow the same choice as new bookings. You’ll only get them if you let guests change their own bookings: see Letting guests change their own booking online.
- Low ratings (Low review rating, or Guest feedback when they wrote a message), when a guest rates their visit under 4 stars after your follow-up email. Every phone that hasn’t set Reservation notifications to Disabled gets these, whatever party size it picked. See Following up with guests and collecting reviews.
- Same-day cancellations (Cancellation), on phones that have switched them on, when a guest cancels today’s booking with the link in their confirmation email.
Bookings your own team takes don’t send a notification: whoever took it already knows. They still appear on everyone’s screens straight away.
Tapping a notification
Tap a new-booking notification to open NomNom on that booking’s day, with its area and meal already picked, so you can see where it fits. If your phone is signed in to more than one venue, NomNom switches to the right one first.
Good to know
- One phone, several venues. A phone signed in to more than one venue gets notifications from each, with the venue’s name as the title. The Notifications screen sets them for the venue you’re in, so switch venue to set the others.
- Your venue’s own switches. Changes and cancellations also need Notify staff on under ONLINE CHANGES and WHEN A RESERVATION IS CANCELLED in Settings → Cancellations & No-shows. Both start on; only admins can change them.
- The same choice, in a second place. Admins also see it in Settings → Online Booking & Discover, under DEVICE NOTIFICATIONS, as Notifications enabled and Send notification for. Changing either place changes both.
- In NomNom Web there are no notifications, but new bookings appear on your screen by themselves. See A new booking isn’t showing on another screen.
- Not arriving? See Not getting booking notifications on your phone.
