During service, a booking’s status shows the whole team where each table is up to: still to come, sat down, or gone. Changing it takes a couple of clicks in NomNom Web or a couple of taps in the phone app, and the booking takes on that status’s colour in your List, Chart and Plan.
The statuses you can pick are your venue’s own, such as Arrived and Departed. To add, rename or recolour them, see Creating your own booking statuses.
Change a status in NomNom Web
1. Click the booking. In List, Chart or Plan, click the booking. Its details open in the panel on the right.
2. Click the arrow next to Status. A menu opens with your statuses, each beside its colour.
3. Pick the new status. It saves straight away, and you’ll see Status set to Arrived (or whichever you picked).
Or skip the panel: right-click the booking in any view, choose Change status, then pick the status.
In NomNom Web: click a booking → the arrow next to Status, or right-click a booking → Change status. In the phone app: tap a booking → Change Status.
Take a status off
The first item in the menu, (Clear status), puts the booking back to having no status. You’ll see Status cleared, and the booking’s status pill disappears from the list. When you’re editing a booking, the same choice is No status at the top of the Status drop-down.
In the phone app
Tap the booking in List, Chart or Plan, then tap Change Status. Tap the new status and it saves straight away; Clear status at the top of the list takes it off. If you already have the booking open in View Details, tap Status, pick one, then tap Save Reservation.
What your statuses do
Most statuses are just a label and a colour. Three switches on a status make it do more. You’ll find them by clicking a status under Settings → Reservation Statuses.
- Guests are at the table — usually on for Arrived. Optimise tables won’t move these bookings, so nobody gets reseated mid-meal. See Optimising your table plan.
- Counts as departed — usually on for Departed. The booking’s turn ends there and then, so the table can be used again. See What happens when you mark a party as departed.
- Counts as a no-show — NomNom asks you to confirm first, because it frees the table. See Cancelling a booking and marking a no-show.
Want a separate step for when guests actually sit down? Add a Seated status with Guests are at the table switched on.
Good to know
- Cancelling isn’t a status. A status called Cancelled isn’t offered in these menus. Right-click the booking and choose Cancel booking instead, or in the phone app tap Cancel Booking at the bottom of the Change Status list.
- PIN. If your venue asks for a PIN, you’ll enter it before the change saves. See Requiring a PIN before staff save a booking.
- Read-only staff can’t change a status. See What Admin, Standard and Read-only staff can do.
- On a touchscreen till, tap the booking and use the arrow next to Status in the side panel rather than right-clicking.
- Guests never see a status. It isn’t on their emails, their texts or your booking page.
- Parties who’ve left cluttering the chart? You can fade or hide them. See Chart display options: bold colours and fading or hiding parties who have left.
- The status a new booking starts with is set on the Default statuses tab. See What "Unconfirmed" means, and the status new bookings start with.
