I didn't get my NomNom code, or it says "Invalid code"

NomNom uses a few different codes, and each one lasts a different length of time. When a code doesn’t arrive or is turned down, it’s nearly always one that has run out, an older code when a newer one has been sent, or a code that went to a different inbox. Start by working out which code you have.

Which code have you got?

  • A 6-digit sign-in code for NomNom Web. You asked for it with Sign in with a one-time code. The email is called Your NomNom login code. It lasts 15 minutes and works once.
  • A 6-digit access code for the phone app. It signs a phone in. It comes in your welcome email or from an admin, who makes one in People & Access; either way it lasts 48 hours. A code you ask for yourself with Request a code in the app lasts 24 hours, and its email is called Access Code - and your venue’s name.
  • A 4-digit code when you sign up. The email is called Verify your email - NomNom, and the code lasts 30 minutes.
  • A one-time password from your admin, or the temporary password in your welcome email. These aren’t codes: they go in the Password box on the normal sign-in page (see Resetting a member of staff’s password).

NomNom Web says the code is invalid or has expired

You’ll see That code is invalid or has expired. Request a new one. Check these:

  • More than 15 minutes have passed. Click Resend code and use the new one straight away.
  • You asked more than once. Only the newest code works. Open the most recent email.
  • Too many wrong tries. Five wrong codes or passwords in a row lock sign-in, and you’ll see Too many failed attempts. with how long to wait (up to 15 minutes). An admin can lift it straight away by resetting your password.

The phone app says the code isn’t valid or has expired

You’ll see That code isn’t valid or has expired. Codes only last a day or two - ask your venue admin for a new one. For your security, the app doesn’t say which, so check both:

  • A typing slip. Try the six digits again.
  • It has run out. Ask an admin for a fresh one: in People & Access they open your name and click New code under Devices. Or tap Request a code on the Enter Access Code screen and type the email address your NomNom account was set up with.
  • You’ve been switched off. A code made for someone whose Active switch is off in People & Access no longer works, even inside its 48 hours.

How to use a code: Signing in on another device.

The phone app's Enter Access Code screen showing That code isn't valid or has expired, with Verify and Request a code

Signing up: "That code didn’t work"

You’ll see That code didn’t work. If it keeps failing, tap "Resend code" for a new one: codes expire, and stop working after a few wrong tries. The 4-digit code lasts 30 minutes, and each code allows five tries. After five wrong tries even the right code is turned down, so tap Resend code and use the newest one.

The code never arrived

  • Look in spam or junk, and give it a minute or two.
  • Search your inbox for the email names above.
  • Check which inbox it went to. A NomNom Web code for a username goes to that person’s own email address, or to the owner’s or the restaurant’s if they haven’t got one. The phone app’s Request a code only sends to the email address the account was set up with. Type any other address and you’ll see Failed to send code. Please try again.
  • The sign-in page won’t say whether an account exists. It looks the same whether or not a code was sent, so a mistyped address looks like a missing email.

Good to know

  • A phone access code can sign in more than one phone until it runs out, each one as the person it was made for. Only give it to that person.
  • A new code doesn’t sign anyone out. Phones and browsers already signed in stay signed in.
