Bring the dog — dog-friendly bookings in NomNom

Some of the warmest welcomes happen on four legs. Plenty of restaurants are happy to have a well-behaved dog under the table — but until now, "are you dog-friendly?" was a question your guests had to ask, and one your team had to field by phone.

So we've built it in. NomNom now handles dog-friendly bookings from start to finish: you decide whether to accept dogs, which tables suit them, and the house rules — and your guests can tell you they're bringing one the moment they book online.

The short version

  • Turn dog bookings on or off for your venue in a single switch.
  • Mark individual tables as Dog Friendly — and guests bringing a dog are only offered those tables.
  • Set a limit on dogs per booking and per sitting, so you're never caught out.
  • Write your own ground rules that guests agree to before they can confirm.
  • Guests answer a simple "Bringing a dog?" question on your online booking page and tell you the breed and size.

It's off by default, so nothing changes until you decide you're ready.

What your guests see

Guests are asked “Bringing a dog?” right at the start of the online booking flow.

Once you've switched it on, anyone booking through your online booking page gets a friendly "Bringing a dog?" question early in the process. If they say yes, they'll let you know how many dogs are coming and a little about each one — breed and size — so your team knows what to expect.

Before they can confirm, they'll see your ground rules and tick to say they agree. The booking simply won't go through until they have, and we quietly note the moment they agreed — so everyone's clear on what was asked and accepted.

Guests tell you about each dog and agree to your ground rules before confirming.

Behind the scenes, NomNom makes sure a guest with a dog is only offered a table that welcomes one. They never see an unsuitable table, and you never have to move a booking after the fact.

Setting it up

1. Switch it on

In the app, head to your online booking settings and open Dog Bookings. Flip "Allow dog bookings" on, and the "Bringing a dog?" question appears on your booking page straight away.

2. Set your limits

While you're there, you can set a maximum number of dogs per booking and a maximum per sitting — a cap across every booking in the same time slot. If you're happy to seat two dogs at once but not ten, this is where you say so, and NomNom keeps count for you.

3. Write your ground rules

Add your own ground rules in your own words — something like "Dogs must remain on a lead at all times, and please clean up after your dog." Whatever you write is what guests agree to before they confirm.

Everything in one place: switch it on, set your limits, and write your ground rules.

4. Mark which tables welcome dogs

Finally, in Configuration → Tables, open any table and turn on the Dog Friendly switch (look for the little paw print). From then on, guests bringing a dog are only offered the tables you've flagged.

Flag the tables that welcome dogs with the Dog Friendly switch.

Here's the thoughtful part: if you haven't marked any tables yet, dogs are simply accepted at any table — exactly as if the feature weren't there. NomNom will never quietly empty your availability just because you've switched dog bookings on before marking a table. You're always in control, and there are no nasty surprises.

Why we built it

Dogs are part of family life, and a dog-friendly table is a genuine reason a guest chooses one restaurant over another. But "we love dogs — just not at that table, and not six at once" is a perfectly reasonable position too. We wanted to give you both: a warm welcome for the dogs you're happy to host, and the controls to keep things comfortable for everyone else in the room.

No more phone calls to check. No more reshuffling tables on the night. Just a clear question at the point of booking, your rules agreed up front, and the right table every time.
