"Your role does not permit managing the company"

If People & Access shows Can’t manage people here and the message Your role does not permit managing the company., NomNom doesn’t think the person signed in on that device is an Admin. (In People & Access, NomNom calls your account a company.) It usually happens on one phone or tablet, often for someone who really is an Admin. There are two causes, and a quick way to tell them apart.

In NomNom Web: account menu (top right) → People & Access. In the phone app: Settings → People & Access.

People & Access on a phone, showing Can't manage people here and the message Your role does not permit managing the company.

First, check on a computer

Sign in to NomNom Web as yourself and open People & Access. If your team list loads there, the problem is only on that phone or tablet: see cause 1. If you get the same message on the computer too, it’s your role: see cause 2.

Cause 1: the phone is signed in as someone who’s been removed

Every phone and tablet is signed in to NomNom as a particular person. If that person was deleted in the admin portal some time ago, or the phone was set up long ago under a sign-in that no longer exists, People & Access can’t tell who’s using it, and refuses. Bookings and settings carry on working on that phone, so it’s easy to miss. In the admin portal, the Devices page shows that phone’s User as Unassigned.

What to do: sign the phone in again as the right person, with a fresh code. You don’t need to remove anything from the phone first.

1. Make a code for the person who uses the phone. On the computer, in People & Access, click the person, then click New code under Devices. If they work at more than one venue, choose the venue this phone is for. The Device access code window shows six digits, which work for 48 hours. (In the admin portal, Generate code next to them on the Users page does the same.)

2. Enter it on the phone. Go to Settings → Locations → Add Restaurant → Login to an Existing Account. Type the six digits and tap Verify. Your venue stays on the phone as it was.

3. Close the app completely, then open it again. Go back to People & Access and your team should load.

On a shared phone, choose the person carefully: the phone takes on their role. An Admin keeps full access; a Standard person can take bookings but won’t see Configuration or your venue’s settings. There’s more on codes in Signing in on another device.

Cause 2: your role has changed

If someone has changed you to Standard or Read-only, the message is right: only Admins can manage people. People & Access can still show on a phone until you close and reopen the app.

What to do: if it’s a mistake, ask an Admin to open your entry in People & Access and choose Admin under Role. Then close and reopen the app. See What Admin, Standard and Read-only staff can do.

When to contact NomNom support

Contact NomNom support if a fresh code doesn’t fix it, or if nobody at your venue can sign in to NomNom Web or the admin portal as an Admin to make one. We can check which person the phone is signed in as and put it right.

Good to know

  • Sign in to manage your company. is the same problem in another form: the phone isn’t signed in as anyone in particular. The same fix works.
  • No active company is associated with your sign-in. is a different problem, with your account itself. Contact NomNom support.
  • When someone leaves, switch Active off for them in People & Access. It signs them out on every device, and you can switch them back on if they return.
