When someone buys a gift voucher on your voucher page, NomNom sends up to three emails: one to the buyer, one to you, and one to the person it’s for, if the buyer gave their email address. Here’s what each one is and when it goes. (Vouchers you sell over the counter work differently — see below.)
The moment the payment goes through
Nothing is sent while the buyer is still on the payment page. As soon as their payment goes through:
- The buyer gets Your venue name gift voucher. It’s their receipt and their voucher in one: a Download voucher button for the printable voucher, the voucher code and the date it’s valid until. They also see the code and a Download PDF button on screen straight after paying.
- You get Gift voucher sale — £50.00 (with the amount of the sale). It shows the Gross sale, the NomNom fee, what’s Net to you, and who bought it and for whom. It never includes the voucher code, so nobody reading your inbox can spend it.
- The person it’s for gets Buyer’s name sent you a venue name gift voucher, with the buyer’s message, the download button, the code and the expiry date. This only goes if the buyer filled in Their email, and it goes now only if they left Straight away chosen.
Sending it on a chosen date
Buyers often want a voucher to arrive on a birthday or on Christmas morning. On your voucher page, under When should we send it?, they can pick Choose a date and set a Delivery date and time.
- Only the gift email waits. The buyer’s own email and your sale email still go the moment they pay, so the buyer has a copy of the voucher in the meantime.
- It goes on the day they picked. NomNom checks for vouchers due to go out every minute.
- No email address, nothing to schedule. If the buyer left Their email blank, the voucher only goes to them, straight away, and they pass it on themselves. The page suggests this to buyers who want to keep it a surprise.
- Refunded or cancelled first? Then the scheduled email isn’t sent.
Vouchers you sell in person
A voucher sold at the till sends one email at most: the voucher itself, to your customer, the moment you click Record sale with Email voucher to customer switched on. There’s no receipt and no sale email to you. See Selling gift vouchers in person.
Choosing where your sale emails go
Sale emails go to the address in Sales email in your voucher settings. If it’s blank, they go to your account email. An admin can change it, to send them to whoever does your books, for example.
In NomNom Web: account menu (top right) → Settings → Vouchers → Sales email. In the phone app: Settings → Vouchers → Sales email.
Good to know
- They come from your venue. Voucher emails show your venue’s name as the sender (for example, The Red Lion via NomNom), with your header image at the top if you’ve added one. If a guest replies, the reply comes through to you.
- Download links last 7 days. The code itself is valid until the voucher expires. If the buyer opens an older link, they can ask for a fresh one, which is sent to the email address they bought the voucher with.
- Resending a voucher. If a guest can’t find theirs, an admin can open the voucher in Sales and click Resend to recipient or Resend receipt to buyer. This only works while the voucher can still be spent. The buyer can also get a fresh link as above.
- No expiry reminders. NomNom doesn’t email anyone before a voucher runs out.
- Unfinished purchases send nothing. If a buyer leaves the payment page without paying, no one gets an email. The voucher waits as Pending payment in your sales list (see Understanding your voucher sales report).
