What NomNom's error messages mean

Most of NomNom’s messages explain themselves, but a few are worth a closer look. Here they are, worded exactly as you’ll see them, with what to do next.

Signing in

Your session has ended. Please sign in again. (NomNom Web) You’ve been signed out, usually because NomNom Web hadn’t been used for 12 hours. Sign in again. If you ticked Keep me signed in on this device, NomNom signs you straight back in.

Your session has expired. Please sign in again. What you were saving didn’t go through because you’d been signed out. Sign in, then make the change again.

This device’s access has been removed by an administrator. (phone app) An admin has taken this phone or tablet off your venue, so the app goes back to its start screen. Ask an admin for a new access code: see Signing in on another device.

That code isn’t valid or has expired. Codes only last a day or two - ask your venue admin for a new one. (phone app, entering an access code) The code is wrong or has run out. Ask an admin for a new one, or tap Request a code for a fresh one.

Invalid email or password. (NomNom Web) Check for typos, or use Forgotten your password? or Sign in with a one-time code. After too many wrong tries, Too many failed attempts. tells you how long to wait.

PINs and permissions

Incorrect PIN. Try again. The PIN didn’t match anyone at your venue, or there have been a lot of PIN attempts in one minute. If a PIN you know is right keeps failing, wait a minute. If the device is offline or NomNom is busy, the message says so instead and keeps the PIN you typed: click Continue to try again. See Requiring a PIN before staff save a booking.

A PIN is required to save this booking. The booking wasn’t saved because no valid PIN came with it. Usually the phone app is out of date and doesn’t ask for one, so update it from the App Store or Google Play. Otherwise, wait a minute and save again.

Your role does not permit this action. or Your role does not permit viewing this. Your staff role doesn’t cover that change or screen — a Read-only user saving a booking, say, or a Standard user opening billing. Ask an admin to do it or to change your role. See What Admin, Standard and Read-only staff can do.

Connection problems

Couldn’t connect to NomNom This device can’t get online. Check the Wi-Fi or mobile data, then try again (on the start-up screen, click Retry). Your device stays set up.

NomNom isn’t responding The problem is at our end, not yours. Wait a moment and click Retry.

The phone app's start-up screen saying Couldn't connect to NomNom, Check your internet connection and try again, with a Retry button

Couldn’t reach the server. Check your connection and try again. What you just did may not have got through. Check you’re online, look to see whether it saved, then try again.

Connection problem — the charge may have gone through. (and the same for refunds and recorded payments) The payments list has been refreshed. Check it before trying again, so the guest isn’t charged twice.

Too many requests just now. Please wait a moment and try again. NomNom has had a lot of requests from your venue’s internet connection in the last minute, often because several devices share it. Nothing is wrong with the booking; just wait a moment.

Sorry, that didn’t go through. Please try again. or Something went wrong A general hiccup, so try again. If it keeps happening, email support@nomnom-app.net with the exact message, what you were doing and roughly when.

Updates

Update available (phone app) A newer version is out. Tap Get Update to go to the app store. If it can’t open the store, it says Get the latest version of NomNom from the App Store or Google Play. instead.

Saving events requires the latest app version. Please update the app from the store and try again. (phone app) Older versions can’t save some events correctly, so NomNom stops them. Update the app, or make the change in NomNom Web.

For NomNom Web, see NomNom Web looks out of date: getting the latest version.

Good to know

  • A refusal saves nothing. When a save is refused for a session, PIN or role reason, nothing has changed. Put it right, then make the change again.
