NomNom Web works on a touch-screen till as well as on an ordinary computer: open it in the till’s web browser and sign in as usual. Tills often have a small screen, and many of them report a finger as a mouse, so swiping a list moves the pointer instead of scrolling. Two settings on the Display page sort out both.
Before you start
A till that runs Windows is fine. A till that runs Android is treated like a tablet, so NomNom Web shows its desktop-only message there instead — see Why can’t I open NomNom Web on my phone or iPad?. For signing in and staying signed in, see Using NomNom in your web browser.
Settings is for admins only, so an admin needs to sign in on the till to set this up. The settings are saved on that till, so set up each till on its own. They stay put when other staff sign in and out.
Make everything fit: Display size
1. Open Display. Click Settings at the bottom of the left-hand bar (or in the account menu, top right), then Display under GENERAL SETTINGS. Or type till into Search settings.
2. Pick a size. Under DISPLAY SIZE, tap 90%, 80% or 70% to fit more on the screen. This is the one to use when the calendar or the booking form is cut off at the bottom. On a big monitor, 115%, 130% or 150% makes everything larger.
3. Check it. The change happens straight away, so the page you’re on is your preview. Tap 100% (Default) to go back.
In NomNom Web: Settings → Display → Display size. In the phone app: Settings → Display.
On a short screen, NomNom Web also shrinks itself automatically so that the calendar and the booking form fit. There, picking a bigger size may make no difference.
Scroll by dragging your finger
If dragging a list with your finger moves the pointer or selects things instead of scrolling, the till is reporting your finger as a mouse. Here’s the fix.
1. Open Display as above.
2. Turn on Scroll lists by dragging under TOUCH SCREEN.
3. Try it. Drag the day’s bookings up and down. It works straight away, with no need to reload.
In NomNom Web: Settings → Display → Touch screen.
On the Chart, drag up and down to scroll. A sideways drag across empty space does something different: it starts a new booking on that table, as long as the stretch you dragged across. Tapping an empty space starts a booking at that table and time.
Leave this switched off on a computer with a real mouse. With it on, dragging across text scrolls the list instead of selecting the text. If your till already scrolls when you swipe, you don’t need it either.
Getting around by touch
Tap a booking to open it in the side panel on the right, with Edit reservation and Full details. A double tap opens Full details straight away. New reservation and Walk-in are at the top of the left-hand bar.
Short of room? Tap the menu button at the left end of the top bar to hide the left-hand bar and give the diary the whole width, and tap it again to bring the bar back. On a narrow screen the bar tucks itself away, and the same button slides it out.
Good to know
- Only this till changes. Display size and scrolling are saved in the till’s web browser, so every other computer and till keeps its own. Clearing the browser’s saved data resets them.
- Its own window. In Chrome or Microsoft Edge, Add to desktop in the account menu gives NomNom its own window and a desktop shortcut — see Using NomNom in your web browser.
- Got a keyboard? Keyboard shortcuts in NomNom Web lists the keys for stepping through days, searching and starting a booking. Ctrl and + or Ctrl and - also zooms the page, as on any website.
- The phone app has the same Display size choices under Settings → Display. Phones and tablets already scroll with a finger, so leave the scrolling switch off there.
