Restoring a cancelled booking

Cancelled the wrong booking, or a guest has changed their mind? You can bring a cancelled booking back. It returns to your diary with the same reference and details, but there are three things to know: the guest is emailed, the table isn’t put back, and a refunded deposit stays refunded.

Restore a booking

1. Find it. Cancelled bookings are hidden until you tick Show cancelled at the bottom left of NomNom Web (or press C). Search finds them too, marked Cancelled. In the phone app, tap the three dots at the top right and choose Show Cancelled Bookings.

2. Restore it. In NomNom Web, right-click the booking and choose Restore booking. It happens straight away and you’ll see Booking restored — re-seat from the chart. You’ll also find Restore booking in the booking’s full details, and in the three-dot menu of the new booking window. In the phone app, open the booking and tap Restore Reservation at the bottom.

3. Seat it again. Cancelling took the booking off its table, and restoring doesn’t put it back, because the table may have gone to someone else since. The booking comes back unallocated. Right-click it and choose Move to table, or drag it from the Unallocated row on the chart. See Moving, swapping or unallocating a table.

In NomNom Web: tick Show cancelled → right-click the booking → Restore booking. In the phone app: Show Cancelled Bookings → open the booking → Restore Reservation.

What the guest hears

If the booking is still ahead and has an email address, NomNom emails the guest their booking confirmation again, so someone who was told it was cancelled knows it’s back on. Restoring a booking whose time has passed sends nothing.

A confirmation text that already went out isn’t sent again. If you send reminder texts and this one hasn’t gone yet, it goes as normal. See When NomNom sends confirmation and reminder texts.

Deposits and payment links

  • Refunded when it was cancelled? If your venue refunds deposits automatically, the refund stands. Restoring doesn’t take the money again, so the booking has no deposit now. If you still want one, send the guest a payment link: see Sending a guest a payment link.
  • Not refunded? The deposit is still on the booking, and the confirmation email shows it as Deposit Paid.
  • A payment link the guest hadn’t paid works again once the booking is restored, as long as it hasn’t expired.

Good to know

  • No capacity check. NomNom doesn’t check that the time still has room, so a restored booking can take you over a guest limit. Check the day before you confirm with the guest.
  • Requested table. Cancelling also cleared Requested table. Once you’ve seated them, tick it again in the booking if the guest asked for that table.
  • Who did it. The Audit trail tab records the restore as Cancelled: Yes → No. See Seeing who changed a booking: the audit trail.
  • Read-only staff aren’t offered Restore in NomNom Web.
  • Booked through Google? NomNom doesn’t tell Google the booking is back, so the email is what tells the guest.
  • Cancelling in the first place: see Cancelling a booking and marking a no-show.
