Your venue's time zone and the clocks changing

NomNom keeps every venue on its own local time. For a UK venue that’s UK time, which switches between GMT and British Summer Time by itself. When the clocks go back an hour at 2am on Sunday 25 October, you don’t need to change anything.

Your venue’s time zone

Your time zone was set when your venue was created, from the phone or computer you signed up on. It isn’t something you can change yourself. Booking Page Date & Time in Settings holds only your booking page’s Time format (12 or 24 hour) and the day its calendar starts on (Calendar starts on).

NomNom Web Settings, Booking Page Date & Time, with Time format and Calendar starts on, and no time zone setting

In NomNom Web: Settings → Booking Page Date & Time. In the phone app: Settings → Booking Page Date & Time.

NomNom uses your time zone to know what time it is at your venue right now. That decides which of today’s times have already gone, so they aren’t offered online, and when your online cut-off and notice periods take effect (see Closing online bookings for the day: the online booking cut-off and Requiring more notice for certain meals). It also decides when texts can go out.

If your time zone were wrong, you’d see things happen an hour out: online booking still offering a time that’s just gone, or closing an hour early, or reminders arriving an hour off. If that happens, email support@nomnom-app.net and we’ll put it right.

When the clocks go back on 25 October

  • Bookings keep their times. NomNom stores each booking at the time on the clock, so a 7pm booking on Sunday 25 October is still at 7pm, and so is everything else in your diary. Nothing moves.
  • Online booking follows the clocks. Your booking page goes by the new time straight away, so the times it offers, your cut-off and your notice periods all work as normal.
  • Texts go out as usual. Reminders are timed from the booking’s time on your clock, and no text is sent before 7am or after 10pm your time (see When NomNom sends confirmation and reminder texts).
  • Guests abroad see your times. Your booking page always shows your venue’s times, wherever the guest is booking from.
  • Your devices change themselves. NomNom opens on today’s date by the clock on your phone or computer. Phones and computers change automatically, but if a till or PC has its clock set by hand, change it too.

It all works the same way when the clocks go forward again on Sunday 28 March 2027.

Good to know

  • Seeing 25 October twice? Older versions of NomNom could show 25 October twice in a month calendar. NomNom Web has been fixed, so refresh it (see NomNom Web looks out of date: getting the latest version). In the phone app, install the latest update from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Outside the UK? Your venue follows its own country’s clock changes in just the same way.
  • Times in messages. Confirmation emails and texts show the booking time as it is on your clock, the same time you see in NomNom.
  • Admins only. Only people with the Admin role can change the booking page’s time format or calendar start day.
