What your guests see when they book online, step by step

When a guest rings because they’re stuck booking online, it helps to know what’s on their screen. Here’s your booking page from their side, step by step. Some questions only appear if you’ve switched them on, so yours may skip one or two.

Which booking page do your guests see?

Your booking link opens one of two designs. The booking steps are the same in both; only the page around them differs.

  • The classic page: a banner with your header image and name, your details on the left and the form on the right under Reserve Your Table. On a phone the form comes first, and a Make a Reservation button at the bottom scrolls back to it.
  • The Discover-style page: a large photo header, with the form in a Book a table card beside it (under it on a phone) and your number below after Prefer to call? If you’re listed on NomNom Discover, your link opens your Discover page, which looks the same.

Newer venues have the Discover-style page. To check yours, click Test Online Booking near the bottom of Settings → Online Booking & Discover. Each part of the page is explained in What appears on your booking page, and where each part comes from.

Step 1: Guests

The guest taps how many are coming, up to your online maximum, then Next. Depending on your settings they may also see + Add children, Bringing a dog?, High chairs needed? and your large party message. A bar across the top shows the steps, with a summary of their choices above it.

Step 2: Date

Only days with room for their party can be tapped; past, closed and full days are greyed out. Tapping a day moves straight on.

Step 3: Time

If more than one meal or event runs that day, they pick one under Select Meal first (events carry an Event tag). Then the times appear, usually grouped under area names if you have more than one area (see Showing meal and room names on your booking page’s times). The arrows beside the date move a day at a time.

Tapping a time holds a table while they finish. If only one time is free, it’s picked for them, unless it’s an event. If someone else has just taken a time, they’re told and the times refresh. When nothing is free they see Sorry, we have no availability on this date, please try a different date.

Step 4: Your Details

First Name, Last Name, Email and Mobile are all required. They may also see Special Requests or Notes (Optional), + Add allergens and, if they’re bringing a dog, a few questions about it (see Welcoming guests with dogs).

Step 5: Card Details or Deposit

This only appears when the booking needs a card. Card Details saves their card with nothing charged now; Deposit shows the amount, taken when they confirm. Apple Pay or Google Pay may be offered too. See Setting up deposits and card requirements on a meal and Apple Pay and Google Pay on your booking page.

Step 6: Confirm

They check the summary, tick I accept the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy and click Confirm Booking. The next screen says Booking Confirmed! with their Booking Reference, and that a confirmation email is on its way (see Booking confirmations and reminders).

Good to know

  • From step 2 on, every step has a Back button, so a guest can change the date or time without starting again.
  • Confirm Booking does nothing? They haven’t ticked the terms box. A message just above the button asks them to.
  • Payment didn’t go through? They’ll see Payment Failed, with Update Card Details to try again or Start Over.
  • A time you expected is missing? See How NomNom decides which times to offer online.
