When a guest pays a deposit online, your booking page and their confirmation email both tell them it will be deducted from your final bill. NomNom isn’t linked to your till, so it can’t take the deposit off for you: your team needs to spot it and take it off when the bill is made up. Here’s where to look, and what to check.
Where to see what a table has paid
- The bookings list. A green paid icon sits on any booking with money paid. In NomNom Web, hover over it to see the amount, such as Paid £40.00 (after refunds).
- The side panel. In NomNom Web, click the booking. Under Booking, Paid shows the amount in green.
- Card & Payments. Every payment on the booking, with its amount, card and date, and what it was: Booking deposit for one paid online, Payment link, or one recorded on your card reader.
- The service sheet. PAID in the Deposit column, and on the Full sheet the amount too, such as Deposit paid: 40.00 — see Printing tonight’s service sheet.
In NomNom Web: click the booking → Full details → Card & Payments. In the phone app: tap the booking → Card & Payments.
Taking it off the bill
1. Check the booking before the bill goes out. Look for the green paid icon, or PAID on your service sheet. Printing the sheet before service gives whoever does the bills a list of every table with a deposit.
2. Check the amount. Paid in the list and the side panel is what’s still held, after any refund. On Card & Payments, Paid after refunds is the same figure, with anything refunded shown in red underneath.
3. Check what it was for. A payment someone sent as a Payment link might have been a deposit, or might have been something else, such as a balance. If you’re not sure, ask whoever sent it before you take it off.
4. Take it off on your till. Put it through the way your till handles money that’s already been paid, so the guest only pays the rest. There’s nothing else to do in NomNom.
Good to know
- No-shows keep their deposit. Marking a booking as a no-show doesn’t refund it, and there’s no bill to take it off — see Charging a no-show or late-cancellation fee.
- Keeping a deposit as a fee? The booking page and the email always say it comes off the bill, and the starter terms NomNom gives you say deposits go towards the bill unless you tell guests otherwise. If you do anything different, say so clearly in your terms — see Adding your booking terms and privacy policy.
- Deposits taken on your card machine. Record them on the booking and they show in all the same places — see Recording card machine and cash payments.
- Paid in full up front? If you use a deposit for the whole price of a set menu, the bill is only for extras — see Card hold, deposit or pre-payment: which should I ask for?.
- Your till company. NomNom can let a till company read your bookings, including what’s been paid, without being able to change anything. If yours would like to show deposits on your till, get in touch with us.
