A turn length is how long a booking holds its table before the table is free for the next guests. NomNom uses it to work out which tables are free at each time, for online bookings and for the bookings you take yourself. Each meal has its own turn lengths: one for a table of one or two, and longer ones for bigger parties if you want them. If some days run differently — a busy Sunday lunch where you turn tables faster, say — you can give those days their own set too.
Set a meal’s turn lengths
1. Open the meal. In NomNom Web, click Configuration at the bottom of the left-hand bar (admins only), choose Meals, then click the meal you want to change.
2. Set the default. Open the Durations tab, click Default duration and pick how long a table of one or two should be held.
3. Give bigger parties longer, if you like. Click a party size — 3 - 4 guests through to Over 10 guests — and pick a time. A size you leave alone uses the default, and says (default) next to it.
There’s no Save button: each change saves as you make it, and All changes saved shows at the bottom once it has.
In NomNom Web: Configuration → Meals → pick a meal → Durations. In the phone app: Configuration → Meals → tap a meal → Durations.
Different turn lengths on certain days
Say your Sunday lunch runs to 1 hour 30 for most tables, with 2 hours for parties over 6, but the rest of the week keeps its usual times. Here’s how to set that up.
1. Open Advanced options. On the same Durations tab, click Advanced options under the party sizes.
2. Click Add days. A new set of turn lengths appears, starting as a copy of the meal’s usual ones, so you only need to change what’s different.
3. Pick the days. Under Applies on, click the days it’s for — Sun in this example.
4. Change the times for those days. Click each row and pick a time. For the Sunday example: Default duration and 5 - 6 guests at 1 hour 30 minutes, and 7 - 8 guests, 9 - 10 guests and Over 10 guests at 2 hours.
On the days you pick, these turn lengths replace the meal’s usual ones completely. Every other day carries on exactly as before.
In NomNom Web: Configuration → Meals → pick a meal → Durations → Advanced options.
Good to know
- More than one set. Click Add days again to add another — one for Friday and Saturday and another for Sunday, for example. A day can only be in one set: pick a day that’s already in another set and it moves across.
- Removing a set. Click the bin next to Applies on. Those days go back to the meal’s usual turn lengths.
- A set needs at least one day. Until you pick one, you’ll see a reminder and the set isn’t used.
- Each area has its own meals. If you have more than one area, set the days up in each area that needs them.
- The times stay in order. A bigger party is never held for less time than a smaller one, so changing one row can nudge the rows either side of it to match.
- Bookings you’ve already taken don’t change. New turn lengths apply to new bookings. An existing booking keeps its length, even if you move it to another day or time, unless you open it and set its Turn length back to Auto.
- A single time can have its own turn length. In NomNom Web, under Configuration → Times, the TURN column sets a length for one time that overrides the meal’s turn lengths, including these day ones, whatever the party size. Leave it on Default to use the meal’s.
- You can still change one booking. When you take a booking, Turn length is on Auto, which uses these settings. Pick a time there to change that one booking only.
- Setting days is NomNom Web only. The phone app’s meal settings don’t show day turn lengths, and saving a meal there won’t remove them. They still apply to bookings made in the app and online.
