Coming to NomNom from another booking system? You don’t have to type your bookings in again. Ask us and we’ll bring them across for free. Moving from TheFork? Moving your bookings from TheFork to NomNom has the steps for getting your data out of it.
Ask us to move your bookings
1. Find the Get started card. While you’re on your free trial, NomNom Web shows a Get started with NomNom card on any day with no bookings, in the List view. Only admins see it.
2. Click Ask us to move them. It’s the fourth step, Moving from another booking system?
3. Tell us a little. The Bring your bookings across window asks for the Booking system you use now, When does your contract end? (optional) — a rough month is fine — and Anything we should know? (optional). You can leave them all blank: asking is enough.
4. Click Send request. A message says Thanks. We’ll be in touch by email., and the step changes to Requested. We’ll email you to arrange the move, and nothing changes until you’re ready.
In NomNom Web: the Get started card on an empty day → Moving from another booking system? → Ask us to move them. The card isn’t in the phone app.
No card? It goes once you subscribe, finish all four steps or click Hide these steps. You can still ask: use Tell us what you’re on in your welcome email, or the form at the bottom of our switching page.
What we need from you
An export of your bookings from your old system. A CSV or spreadsheet file is ideal. Send it exactly as it came out, without tidying it first. Every system exports differently, so we’ll look at your file and tell you what we can bring across before you rely on it.
What comes across
- Your bookings, each with the guest’s name, phone number and email, the date and time, party size, notes and status. Cancelled bookings come across as cancelled.
- A new booking reference. Each imported booking gets a NomNom reference of its own, so a guest quoting their old reference won’t match. Search for them by name instead.
- Guest notes and VIP flags, if your old system’s export includes them.
Your areas, meals, times and tables don’t come across from any system, so set those up in NomNom first (see Getting started: setting up your restaurant). Deposits your old system took stay with it: settle those the way you always have.
Tables: the one thing to redo
An imported booking keeps the table your old system gave it, and those names rarely match your NomNom tables. Until it’s on one of yours, the booking doesn’t hold a seat, so online guests can still book the table it should be on. In NomNom Web, a red count at the bottom of the day, such as 3 on a removed table, shows how many need moving. Seat them as soon as your tables are set up (see Setting up your areas and tables).
What your guests are sent
- No confirmation email or text. Importing a booking sends the guest nothing: they already have a confirmation from your old system.
- Reminder texts still go. If REMINDER SMS is on under Settings → SMS Service, imported bookings get their reminder before the visit like any other, unless your old system’s file shows it already sent one (see When NomNom sends confirmation and reminder texts).
- A moved booking gets a fresh confirmation. Change an imported booking’s date or time and the guest is emailed an updated confirmation, if the booking has an email address. If INSTANT SMS is on, they’re sent a new confirmation text with the new details too.
Good to know
- Still taking bookings in your old system? We can import again nearer your switch-over. Bookings we brought across before are updated rather than added twice, and any table you’ve seated them at in NomNom is kept. Other changes you’ve made to them in NomNom can be overwritten by the new file, so until you switch, make changes in your old system.
- A list of past diners with no booking is a separate job. Mention it in your request and we’ll tell you what we can do with it.
