Checking what was sent to a guest: the Messages section

Every email and text NomNom sends about a booking is kept with it, under Messages. It’s the quickest way to help a guest who says nothing arrived: you can see what went, when, and to which address or number — and send something new from the same place.

Open a booking’s messages

1. Open the booking’s full details. In NomNom Web, right-click the booking and choose View details, double-click it on the chart, or click Full details in the side panel. In the phone app, tap the booking and choose View Details.

2. Choose Messages. It’s the tab after Card & Payments.

In NomNom Web: right-click the booking → View details → Messages. In the phone app: tap the booking → View Details → Messages.

What the list shows

Emails and texts are listed together, newest first. Each shows whether it’s an Email or an SMS, when it was sent, an email’s subject, the first couple of lines, and a status:

  • Sent — NomNom has handed it on for delivery. It can’t see whether it reached the inbox or phone, or was read.
  • Pending — an email waiting to go, usually for a few seconds.
  • Failed — a text that didn’t go. See Texts aren’t reaching your guests: what to check.

An empty list means nothing has been sent for that booking yet.

Read a message

Click or tap a message to open it. You’ll see who it went To, who an email was From, its Status and the whole message. The phone app lays an email out much as the guest sees it; NomNom Web shows just the words.

The To line is the one to check when a guest says nothing arrived: it’s the exact address or number NomNom used. For more, see A guest says they didn’t get their confirmation email.

Send an email

1. Click Send email. In NomNom Web it’s at the top of Messages. In the phone app, tap Send Email.

2. Choose which email. Reservation confirmation sends the confirmation again, showing the booking as it is now. Post-visit follow-up (Follow-up email in the phone app) is offered once the booking time has passed, if the booking hasn’t had one.

In NomNom Web it goes straight away. The phone app shows you the address first; tap Send.

Send a text

1. Click Send SMS. The top line shows who it’s going to, and their mobile number.

2. Write your message, or start from a quick text. Click one to fill the box, then change it if you like:

  • Booking reminder — your reminder text, filled in for this booking.
  • Your table is now ready.
  • We are running a few minutes behind — thank you for your patience.
  • Just confirming we have your booking. See you soon!

3. Click Send. It goes straight away, whatever the time, and appears in the list. A text can be up to 1,000 characters; the counter under the box shows how many are left.

Good to know

  • Texts use SMS credits, and a long one uses several. If you’ve run out, you’ll be told to top up: see Texting guests and managing SMS credits.
  • A booking reminder you send counts as the reminder, so the automatic one won’t follow.
  • No email or mobile on the booking? You’ll see a message saying so. Add the details to the booking first; saving the booking doesn’t send anything.
  • Some messages went to you, not the guest. A large party alert or a review alert about the booking is listed too, so check the To line. Your own copy of a guest’s email isn’t listed separately: it travels with theirs.
  • A resent confirmation leaves out the guest’s special requests.
  • Not everything is here. Gift voucher emails and emails about your NomNom account aren’t tied to a booking, so they don’t appear.
  • Read-only staff can read Messages but can’t send anything. See What Admin, Standard and Read-only staff can do.
