When a guest cancels or changes their own booking online, NomNom can tell your team with a notification on your phones. There are two layers: a venue-wide Notify staff switch in Settings, and each phone’s own notification choices. Both have to allow it, and cancellations and changes follow different rules.
Guest changes: on for every phone by default
If you let guests change their own booking (see Letting guests change their own booking online), each change sends a notification headed Booking changed and your venue’s name. It shows the party and name, the booking’s new day and time, and what changed: the old and new time, the old and new party size, or both.
It goes to every phone whose Reservation notifications allow it: the same choice that controls new online bookings. Disabled means no change notifications either, and a party size such as 6 or more guests means only changes to bookings of that size, counted after the change.
Guest cancellations: today’s only, and each phone opts in
When a guest cancels with the link in their confirmation email, or through Google if you take bookings there, a notification headed Cancellation and your venue’s name goes out, but only when:
- the booking was for today, and
- that phone has Same-day cancellation notification switched on. It starts off on every phone, so switch it on for the phones that need it.
1. Open Notifications on the phone. In the phone app, go to Settings, then Notifications. Anyone can do this, whatever their role.
2. Switch on Same-day cancellation notification. It saves straight away.
3. Check Reservation notifications. Tap it to choose All bookings, a party size, or Disabled. This covers guest changes, as above.
In the phone app: Settings → Notifications. These are phone-only: NomNom Web has no notifications, but its diary updates by itself.
The venue-wide switches
An admin can stop either kind for every phone at once. Both start on.
- Notify staff under ONLINE CHANGES covers guest changes. It’s greyed out until Allow online changes is on.
- Notify staff under WHEN A RESERVATION IS CANCELLED covers guest cancellations.
In NomNom Web: Settings → Cancellations & No-shows. In the phone app: Settings → Cancellations & No-shows.
Good to know
- Your team’s own changes stay quiet. Cancelling or moving a booking in NomNom doesn’t notify anyone: whoever did it already knows.
- Want to hear about cancellations for other days? Keep Copy my restaurant on under WHEN A RESERVATION IS CANCELLED. You’re then emailed a copy whenever a guest cancels with their link, whatever the date. A guest’s change sends you a copy of their updated confirmation if Copy my restaurant on confirmations is on in Email Settings. See Every email and text NomNom sends, and who gets it.
- A phone signed in to more than one venue gets notifications for each, with the venue’s name in the heading.
- Nothing arriving? Check the phone’s own settings allow NomNom notifications, then tap Fix notifications at the bottom of Settings → Notifications.
- Cancelling a booking yourself: see Cancelling a booking and marking a no-show.
