If you are moving your website over to us and it currently sits with it'seeze (sometimes written Itseeze), this is the whole job end to end. None of it is difficult. The order matters far more than you would expect — one step taken early is the difference between a switch nobody notices and your email going quiet for a day.
Talk to us before you cancel anything. Almost everything that goes wrong with a move like this goes wrong because the subscription was ended first, and the clock then started running on things nobody had set up yet.
What moves, and what does not
Your domain name moves. It is yours. it'seeze may well have registered it for you and may be paying the renewal, but you are the owner and you can take it wherever you like.
Your website itself does not move. it'seeze sites are built on their own platform and cannot be hosted elsewhere — that is their own documented position, not an obstacle we have invented. So we do not migrate your site, we rebuild it. That part is free, and you see the finished thing on a private link before anything at all changes.
Your content is worth saving now, while the site is still up. Photographs, menu wording, your logo, the text on your about page. When the subscription ends the site goes and takes its pictures with it. Save the originals if you have them; if you do not, send us the address and we will pull what we can off the live page before it disappears.
Your email address is the thing to sort out first
it'seeze includes mailboxes in their packages — typically up to five on your own domain. If your bookings@ or info@ address is one of those, it lives with them, and it stops when the subscription stops.
We host websites, not mailboxes. We would much rather say that plainly now than have you discover it in a fortnight. What we do is point your domain at whichever mail provider you choose — Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are the usual two — and from your side the address does not change at all. It is still yours, still on your own domain, still on your business cards.
So before the switch you need two things: a new mailbox set up and receiving, and a copy of anything in the old one you want to keep. Tell us who you have gone with and the records are our job, not yours.
If your email is already somewhere else — a Gmail or Outlook address, or a Google Workspace you set up yourself — then there is nothing to do here at all. Say so, and we will copy your existing settings across untouched.
Two things to check on your contract
Notice period and minimum term. Your agreement is usually with your local it'seeze partner rather than head office, and the terms are not identical between them, so read your own rather than anyone else's summary. Domains are registered for a minimum of twelve months, and at least some it'seeze agreements charge an administration fee to release a domain before that term is up. Worth knowing about in advance; not worth losing sleep over.
Which email address is on the domain record. This one is easy to miss and expensive to miss. The transfer sends an authorisation link to whichever address is held as the registrant contact, and somebody has to click it. If that address is an it'seeze mailbox on the very domain you are moving, and the mailbox has already been switched off, the link arrives nowhere and the transfer quietly cancels itself after five days. Ask them to confirm the address they hold, and to change it to one you will definitely still have — a personal Gmail is perfectly fine — before anything else begins.
Asking it'seeze for what we need
Raise a ticket at support.itseeze.com/support/tickets/new, or go through your local it'seeze consultant if there is one you normally deal with.
What you ask for depends on your domain ending, and this is the point where people get sent round in circles.
Domains ending .co.uk, .uk, .org.uk or .me.uk
There is no authorisation code for UK domains. Asking for one gets you a puzzled reply and a wasted week, and it is the single most common false start. UK domains move a different way: the current registrar changes a marker on the domain called the IPS tag, and it needs setting to
GANDI
in capitals, exactly like that. (Gandi is the registrar our host works through for UK domains. You will not have any other dealings with them.)
Tell us the same day it is done. The tag resets itself to the old value after five days if the transfer has not been requested by then, and the whole request has to be made again.
Domains ending .com, .co, .net, .org and similar
Two things here. Ask them to unlock the domain for transfer, and to send you the authorisation code — you will also see it called an EPP code or an auth code, and they are all the same thing. Forward it to us as soon as it lands.
Something to copy and paste
Hello, I am moving my website to a new provider and would like to transfer my domain, YOURDOMAIN. Please could you: 1. Unlock the domain for transfer. 2. UK domains: change the IPS tag to GANDI (capitals). Everything else: send me the authorisation / EPP code. 3. Confirm the registrant email address you hold for the domain, and update it to YOUR EMAIL if it is not that already. 4. Confirm my notice period and minimum term end date. I would like the website and the mailboxes to keep running until the move is finished, and I will confirm that date with you. Thanks, YOUR NAME
Point 4 and the paragraph after it are the parts worth keeping. Asking them to leave things running while the move happens costs you nothing, and it closes the gap that everything else on this page is trying to avoid.
What happens then, and how long it takes
1. We copy your current settings first. Before any transfer request goes anywhere, we set your domain's records up on our side as an exact copy of what is working today, email included. This is the step that keeps the lights on: a transfer can switch off the old provider's DNS the moment it starts, and by then we are already holding a matching copy ready to take over.
2. We request the transfer. You will get one or two emails at the registrant address, from noreply@registrar.amazon, noreply@domainnameverification.net or noreply@emailverification.info. Click the link in them. They look exactly like the sort of message you would normally delete, so watch for them, and check the junk folder. For UK domains this step is compulsory, and if nobody clicks within five days the transfer is cancelled and we start again.
If you also get an email from transfer-auth@gandi.net about a UK domain, ignore it. Its instructions do not apply to this kind of transfer.
3. We wait. Up to seven days for a .com, up to ten for a .co.uk, and frequently much quicker — most registrars simply do not object and it goes through on its own. This is the registry's timetable rather than ours and there is no way to hurry it, which is the honest reason we ask you not to cancel anything early.
4. We switch the website over. A separate step, done on a day you choose, and a few minutes' work. Your it'seeze site is live and serving customers right up until this moment.
5. You cancel it'seeze. Last. Not first.
Two dates to check before you start
Was the domain registered, transferred, or had its registered owner changed in the last 60 days? If so it cannot be transferred yet. That is an industry-wide rule and nobody can waive it. It is uncommon, but it stops the process dead, so it is far better found now than in week two.
When does the domain expire? For a .com, transferring adds a year to it automatically. For a .co.uk it does not — the expiry date comes across exactly as it stands. So if yours falls due in the next couple of months, renew it with it'seeze before the transfer. A domain that expires halfway through comes off the internet, and in the worst case becomes available for somebody else to register.
What it costs
Building the site is free, and it is built before you commit to anything. Keeping it is £15 a month per site, which covers the hosting and any changes you ever want — no hourly rate, and no "that would count as a redesign". Two venues means two sites.
Your domain's own yearly renewal is separate from that, and we will tell you what it comes to for your particular ending before we take it on. A .co.uk and a .com are not priced the same.
If you change your mind
Everything up to step 4 is reversible and none of it touches your live site. Until that point your it'seeze website is still there, still serving customers, exactly as it was. You are welcome to look at what we have built and decide it is not for you — and if you do, nothing changes with your booking account either.
