Limiting how many dogs can come at the same time

You might be happy to have a couple of dogs in at once, but not a whole pack. Maximum dogs per sitting sets how many dogs your booking page will take at the same time, across your whole venue. Once that many are booked in, guests bringing a dog aren’t offered those times.

Set the limit

1. Open your dog settings. In NomNom Web, open Settings, choose Online Booking & Discover, then click Dog bookings in BOOKING OPTIONS. Allow dog bookings needs to be on (see Welcoming guests with dogs).

2. Click Maximum dogs per sitting and pick a number: 1 to 6, 8 or 10, or No limit. It saves as soon as you pick.

The Dog Bookings settings screen: Allow dog bookings on, Request breed information on, Maximum dogs per booking 2, Maximum dogs per sitting 3 and Ground rules

If you’ve never changed it, it’s 2, the number the screen has always shown, and that limit now applies to online bookings.

In NomNom Web: Settings → Online Booking & Discover → Dog bookings. In the phone app: Settings → Online Booking & Discover → Dog bookings.

How the dogs are counted

  • One limit for the whole venue. Dogs in every area count towards the same number; it isn’t per area.
  • Bookings that overlap. NomNom counts the dogs on every booking whose time overlaps the one the guest wants, from its start until its table is due back. A dog booked at 19:00 on a two-hour table still counts at 20:00.
  • Every booking counts, including the ones your team took. Cancelled bookings don’t.

For example, with a limit of 2: Sam Taylor books 19:00 with a dog, on a two-hour table, and Priya Shah books 19:30 with a dog. A guest who wants 20:00 with a dog isn’t offered it, because both of those bookings are still in. At 21:00 Sam’s table is due back, so there’s room for one more.

What guests see

  • Full times aren’t offered. A guest who answers Yes to Bringing a dog? only sees times with room for at least one more dog. Guests without a dog see everything as usual.
  • A whole day with no room. If no time that day can take another dog but there are tables without one, they see Sorry, we can’t take any more dogs on this date. We do still have tables free without a dog — or try a different date. with a See times without a dog button. (The same message shows when your dog-friendly tables are all taken.)
  • Too many dogs for the time. Guests choose how many dogs after they’ve picked a time. If they choose more than will fit, the last step shows Booking Not Completed with, for example, Sorry, we only have room for 1 more dog at that time. Please change the number of dogs, or choose another time. They click Go Back, change the number and try again.
  • Anyone who’s already paid gets their booking. If the guest has already paid a deposit or saved their card by that point, the booking goes through rather than turning them away, so now and then you could have one dog more than your limit.

Your team can still book dogs in

The limit is for online bookings only. You and your team can add dogs to any booking in NomNom Web or the phone app, even if it takes you over the limit, and those dogs then count against the limit for guests booking online. See Recording dogs and high chairs on a booking and Which limits apply to your team's bookings, and which only apply online.

Good to know

  • It’s separate from Maximum dogs per booking, which caps how many dogs one guest can bring. Both apply.
  • Dog-friendly tables still apply. If you’ve marked tables as dog friendly, guests with a dog are only offered those, and the per-sitting limit on top.
  • Don’t want a limit? Pick No limit and NomNom stops counting dogs across bookings. Maximum dogs per booking and your dog-friendly tables still apply.
  • Lowering the limit doesn’t touch existing bookings. Bookings already made keep their dogs; the new limit only affects what’s offered from now on.
