The Plan view shows one area of your restaurant as a floor plan: your tables where they really stand, with each of the day’s bookings sitting on its table. It’s the quickest way to take in the room at a glance during service. You draw the plan once, and everyone sees it in NomNom Web and in the phone app.
Draw your floor plan
In NomNom Web: Plan (in the top bar) → Edit layout. In the phone app: Settings → Table Plan.
1. Open the designer. In NomNom Web, click Plan in the List / Chart / Plan switch in the top bar, then click Edit layout at the top right of the plan. If you haven’t drawn a plan yet, click Design floor plan instead. Only admins see these buttons.
2. Pick the area. Each area has its own plan. If you have more than one, click the area’s name along the top of the designer.
3. Put your tables on the plan. Tables you haven’t placed yet wait in the Unplaced strip. Click one and it drops into the middle of the view as a round table. You can also click Add table at the bottom and pick from the list.
4. Drag each table into place. Snap to grid is on to start with, so tables line up neatly. Click it to turn it off if you want finer control.
5. Set the shape and size. Right-click a table. Choose Round, Square or Rectangle, then a size: Small, Medium or Large (under Diameter for a round table, Size for a square one), or a Width and Height for a rectangle. A rectangle can also be turned 45 or 90 degrees under Rotation. Click Save in that window.
6. Save the plan. Click Save at the bottom of the designer. You’ll see Floor plan saved, and the Plan view updates straight away. Nothing is kept until you do this, and Reset takes you back to the last saved plan.
On the phone, open the menu and go to Settings → Table Plan. It works the same way: tap a table in the strip at the top, or tap Add Table, to place it; drag it into position; tap a table once to select it and again to change its shape, size and rotation; then tap Save at the top right.
Use the plan during service
In NomNom Web: the List / Chart / Plan switch in the top bar → Plan. In the phone app: the List / Chart / Plan switch at the top of the bookings screen → Plan.
Each booking appears on its table as a small pill showing its time, the guest’s surname and the number of guests. When a table has several bookings through the day they stack up, earliest at the top. The booking’s status shows in its colour, using the colours you’ve set for your statuses: a coloured dot at the start of the pill in NomNom Web, and the whole pill on the phone. The plan updates by itself as bookings come in and change.
The plan shows the day you’ve picked and follows your meal filter, so choosing a meal shows just that sitting. If you have more than one area, pick one at the top of the screen. With All rooms selected, the plan asks you to choose one.
In NomNom Web:
- Click a booking to open it in the panel on the right. Clicking the table itself opens its earliest booking.
- Right-click a booking for the same menu as the list and chart, to view or edit it, change its status or move it.
- Zoom with your mouse wheel or trackpad, and drag to move around. The plan opens sized to fit your window.
On the phone, the plan is for looking and tapping: tap a booking for the usual booking options, and pinch to zoom. Tapping an empty table just tells you it has no booking.
Good to know
- Only admins can change the layout. Everyone else can still use the Plan view.
- One plan, everywhere. The phone app and NomNom Web share the same plan, so lay it out once in either.
- The designer doesn’t add or delete tables. Your tables, their numbers and how many they seat are set in Configuration → Tables (see Setting up your areas and tables). To take a table off the plan, right-click it (or tap it twice on the phone) and choose Remove from plan. It goes back to the Unplaced strip, and the table and its bookings aren’t touched.
- Only bookings on placed tables show. A booking with no table yet, or on a table you haven’t put on the plan, won’t appear. You’ll find it in List or Chart.
- Joined tables. Table groups aren’t placed on the plan themselves. A booking across several tables shows on each of them.
- Cancelled bookings never show on the plan. For parties that have left, the plan follows Settings → Reservation Editing → When a party has left: Hide them takes them off the plan, and Fade them fades them in NomNom Web. The phone plan shows faded bookings as normal.
- A stray click won’t lose your work. If you close the designer or switch area with unsaved changes, you’ll be asked whether to Discard them or Keep editing.
- Narrow window? The List / Chart / Plan switch shows just icons. Plan is the grid of four squares.
