Areas are the rooms and spaces your guests sit in — a restaurant, a bar, a garden. You can rename them, change their order or delete one at any time. Here’s what each of those does to your tables, meals, booking times, schedule changes and the bookings you’ve already taken.
In NomNom Web: Configuration → Areas. In the phone app: Configuration → Areas → Edit. Only admins can open Configuration.
Renaming an area
1. Open the name. In NomNom Web, click the area’s name (it has a small pencil beside it). In the phone app, tap Edit on the Areas tab, then the pencil beside the area in Manage Areas.
2. Type the new name and save. In NomNom Web, change Area name in the Rename area window and click Save.
Everything that belongs to the area follows the new name straight away:
- Its tables, and any table a guest is holding while they finish booking online.
- Every booking in it, past and future, so your diary, search and reports all show the new name.
- Its meals and booking times, including any times you’ve set just for this area.
- Schedule changes that name it: closures, custom times, per-date guest limits and Disable online booking for this area all keep working under the new name.
Your booking page shows the new name as soon as you save.
Changing the order
Drag an area by its handle to move it up or down. The order is saved as soon as you let go. It sets the order your booking page lists areas in, and the order NomNom tries them in when a guest doesn’t pick one. Nothing else changes. See Showing your areas on the booking page: order, descriptions and Display rooms.
Deleting an area
Click the bin beside the area (Delete area). NomNom asks Delete "Garden"? and reminds you that Existing reservations will keep this area name. Click Delete area to go ahead.
Once it’s deleted, the area, its tables and its meals and times disappear from your booking page, the booking form, the chart and the floor plan. Nothing else is deleted: bookings already in the area stay in your diary under its name, so past bookings still count in your reports.
Future bookings are the thing to watch. If any are still on the area’s tables, the confirmation lists those tables and how many bookings each has, and warns that the area and its tables leave the chart and floor plan. Move them to another area first. A booking left behind isn’t holding a seat anywhere, so its time can be sold again online. Click Cancel, move each one to a table in another area with Move to table (the booking moves area with its table), then delete. The list only counts bookings on a table, so check for unallocated bookings in the area too.
Deleted one by mistake? Add an area with exactly the same name. The old one comes back as it was, with its tables, meals, times, Online switch and description, and its bookings are back in it.
Good to know
- Just want it off your booking page? Switch off the area’s Online switch instead of deleting it. Your team can still book it. See Keeping part of your restaurant off online booking.
- Don’t reuse a deleted area’s name. Renaming an area to the name of one you deleted brings the deleted one back, with its old tables and times, and deletes the area you were renaming instead. If that happens, add an area with the name you started from to bring it back.
- Changing only capital letters (garden to Garden) doesn’t save at the moment. Rename it to something else first, then to the name you want.
- Two areas can’t share a name. You’ll see A room with that name already exists.
- Tables work differently. A table can’t be renamed, and deleting one strands its bookings. See Changing your floor plan without stranding future bookings.
